Khayamiya 10 | Training on Yoff beach

Two wrestlers training in front of the seafront at Yoff, in Dakar, in pastel tones of pink, yellow and green. The beach is the school of Senegalese wrestling: this is where bodies are prepared, far from the arena and the crowd. Louis Barthélemy entrusts this everyday scene to the master craftsmen of khayamiya in Cairo, who hand-apply and embroider West African bazins onto cotton canvas, their sheen making the flat colours vibrate.
