Two wrestlers locked in a crossed hold, blue, green and ochre figures before a seaside village. In this tighter format of the Khayamiya series, Louis Barthélemy brings Senegalese wrestling into dialogue with khayamiya, the hand-sewn appliqué of Cairo's tentmakers. Each flat area is a West African bazin cut out and then embroidered onto cotton canvas, and the outlines of the bodies can be read in the stitching itself.
